Do artists NEED a unique art style? | Just some thoughts about how necessary a recognizable style is I recorded the process of this bonus page for the physical book of volume 3 of my webcomic (it's over at sssscomic.com if you haven't read it yet!), and happened to be thinking about the pros and cons of having a recognizable art style versus an art style that's more popular and trendy but not necessarily very unique at all, or even almost indistinguishable from other popular artists with the same style. These were some of the thoughts I had, I'm really interested in hearing if you guys have any preferences or opinions one way or the other, or personal experience (positive or negative) with whichever category your art style falls into.

I'm not sure how I'd catergorize my own art style, it's not exactly out there as far as it being crazy unique (it's really just a mix of various Euro-comics/graphic novel styles manga influences that I've picked up over the years), but it is "mine" enough that people tend to recognize it when they see my illustrations or comic ages around.

Anyway, hope you guys enjoyed this! (I might make a video with some tips about how you can kinda develop and steer your art style in different directions, I think that could be fairly useful for some.

WHAT I USE TO DRAW:
For my digital art I use Clip Studio Paint for sketching, linearts and most of my coloring process, often I do some part of the coloring/painting part in Photoshop (it has some cooler brushes available that I enjoy)

I use a wacom cintic 12WX tablet for all my digital drawing needs, hooked up to a desktop computer, occasionally to my laptop. (Yes, it's a SUPER old and small screen tablet! But it still works for me after over 1000 comic pages drawn with it. )
