Drought-affected farmers receiving 'mixed' incomes

Drought-affected farmers receiving 'mixed' incomes The affects of the nation's drought on the agricultural industry has resulted in "mixed" reports of farmers incomes, according to Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics Chief Commodity Director Peter Gooday.

An conference will be held in Canberra on Tuesday to identify how the agricultural economy has been impacted by the drought.

Mr Gooday told Sky News NSW farm incomes were the lowest they had been in 20 years as a result of the drought, but in Victoria, farmers were experiencing the opposite and receiving far higher incomes.

He said the agricultural industry was not completely devastated as they found “the value of production has not fallen by as much as we expected”.

The acting executive director said there would be a “gradual increase” following the expectation of “better seasonal conditions next year.”
