In US news and current events today, this student-curated art exhibition is recontextualizing Black History Month through fashion and art.
Black In Time is a free exhibition at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). It is designed to offer an alternative Black history narrative. The exhibition was curated by Awa Doumbia and Kiara Williams, two business students at FIT and members of the Black student union.
While the ground floor highlights achievements in Black culture, the second floor houses Importune Injustice, which aims to start a conversation about the struggles Black Americans have faced throughout time.
Exhibit curators Awa Doumbia and Kiara Williams hope the exhibition will provide new historical context to the public’s sense of Black history.
Watch this profile of Black in Time to learn more about the exhibit's mission and how to visit it for yourself in New York City.
