In this lesson, I play and walk you through some reharmonization ideas for the main theme of this beautiful composition. This gets pretty deep pretty quick, analyzing the harmonies as Beethoven wrote them as well as looking at some possible alternatives that come from my experience as a jazz pianist. In a followup lesson, I go through the rest of the movement in a similar fashion and provide further analysis and ideas. Secondary dominants, inner voice movements, use of color tones, drop two voicings, augmented sixth chords and tritone substitutions, tritone minor plagal cadences, diminished approach chords, pedal point - it's all in there! The followup lesson is here:
It is available as part of the Music Master Class series, an exclusive benefit of All-Access Membership to the Mastering MuseScore School. We're just getting started here and I will be including a host of lessons on topics from basic to advanced, covering all genres of music. True to the master class format, I also will be providing my feedback on music created by students. We'd love to have you join us!
